Why Praise? Why Worship?

PRAISE is very much a part of our lives. We "praise" our friends or colleagues for a job well done. We "praise" our loved ones for their accomplishments. Praise is sometimes defined as an expression of approval, or admiration of. It can also mean,"to extol".

When we "Praise" GOD, we are extolling him or expressing our admiration to him either by commending Him or magnifying Him to others through our lives and actions.

We acknowledge our GOD as being very dynamic and glorious. The Bible has plenty such recorded evidence to show why!

Our GOD is undoubtly worthy of all Praises, and our Praise is not Praise until its vocalised or expressed. Psalm 66:8 describes,"Let the sound of Praise be heard..."

GOD's praises are not restricted to those who can sing! If one is not capable of singing, GOD's praises should be spoken; ie. through your sharings.

Isaiah 40:9, the Prophet cried out,"Jerusalem, go up on a high mountain and proclaim the Good News! Call out with a loud voice Zion! Speak out and do not be afraid.."

WORSHIP is more difficult to define than Praise. The song,"Heart of Worship" describes an experience of the Worshipper in "Coming back into the Heart of Worship" and giving GOD the "Worship He deserves".

Jesus says no one can give GOD the Worship He rightly deserves except through the Holy Spirit.

Worship is more than a conversation with GOD. It involves a life time Discipleship of adoring GOD, possible only through the Holy Spirit.

I once asked a friend of mine why he enjoys leading Praise and Worship. His reply was,".. its an opportunity to encounter with GOD directly and adore Him."

In other words, 'Coming into Worship' refer to a direct encounter with GOD and experiencing His presence in you.

There is a fine line seperating PRAISE & WORSHIP. However neither can be isolated from the other.

Both are actions of Thanksgiving.

GOD bless!

Very good and helpful explanations
for both P&W.
Especially true the part about W.
Remember in my younger days...the PW leaders divided the sessions into these are Praise songs and these are Worship songs. I would
then examine them and wonder what's the difference lyric wise.
When I asked the PW leaders the
explanation given was that Praise
songs are faster tempo and Worship
songs are slower tempo for aquieter time. Hmmm. Didn't quite buy that. In time I realised...altho the sessions are called PW sessions...all the leader can do is to lead the people into praise...as for worship....the crossing over into that...the PW leader cannot do that for everyone. Each one...
as is personally disposed and led by the Spirit will have to cross over into the Heart of Worship.

Being willing to forgive is the first step towards asking God for strength to do so .... one of the hardest things to do because we want to hold on to that anger, resentment as we feel we have been wronged. However, one theologian once said Christians should be the hardest people to offend. That calls for true humility. If we want to obey God no matter what, we would want to forgive. If we want to practise humility, we would want to forgive. If we know that resentment hurts our well-being, we would want to forgive ... just to want is sufficient ... the Lord hears our prayer for strength, and He works wondrously on us. We will begin to see the other person's viewpoint ..... our own hurts will slowly dilute .... we begin to see the light and the Lord will give us a heart of flesh ...
